HIRUDOTHERAPY AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE IN FOLK MEDICINE

Abstract
Hirudotherapy is one of the oldest methods of traditional medicine, based on the use of
medicinal leeches. This article discusses the biological mechanisms of hirudotherapy, its role in folk
practices, and its modern clinical applications. The method has shown effectiveness in cardiovascular,
neurological, and dermatological conditions. Despite limited contraindications, hirudotherapy
remains a relevant, safe, and supportive therapeutic approach.
