Abstract

This study examines the elliptical and abbreviated usage of Russian and English proverbs in daily communication, analyzing their pragmatic and cultural implications. Ellipsis in proverbs enhances linguistic efficiency and relies on shared cultural knowledge. Through a comparative analysis, this paper explores how social, contextual, and cultural factors influence the shortened forms of proverbs in both languages. The findings highlight the role of proverbs as tools for effective intercultural communication
