Abstract

This article examines how analysis, synthesis, and transcription exercises are employed in teaching the verb topic in Uzbek and Turkish language textbooks. The verb, functioning as the predicative center of a sentence, holds a leading role in grammatical instruction in both languages. Through a comparative lens, the paper investigates the similarities and differences in methodological practices—particularly how textbooks present verb stems, affixes, and tense, person forms. Special attention is paid to how analysis helps learners dissect morphological components, how synthesis enables them to creatively construct new verb forms, and how transcription clarifies orfoepic norms and accurate pronunciation. The study concludes that, while Uzbek textbooks tend to incorporate fewer direct transcription tasks, they do feature many exercises on root-affix dissection and analytic verb forms; Turkish textbooks place broader emphasis on transcription due to specific phonetic elements (“ğ,” “ı,” “ö,” “ü”). In either language, analysis, synthesis, and transcription together reinforce students’ deep linguistic awareness and practical skills. The article also suggests enhancing textbook exercises with digital tools and interactive methods, thus fostering students’ motivation and competence.
