Abstract
We will investigate the role of German dialects in contemporary German society, trace their emergence and evolution, examine the status of High German and people's attitudes toward it, and examine the significance of one's mother tongue for personality development. In the era of globalization, English has a significant influence on standard German. Is this a dangerous trend, and are the many dialects also influenced? Our research will provide answers to these and other questions.
