ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION: QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PERCEPTIONS

Abstract
This investigation probes student conceptualizations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within educational contexts, emphasizing their awareness, informational sources, attitudes, and anticipations regarding AI's function across various domains, notably education. A survey of students across academic levels and disciplines revealed a moderate to substantial AI awareness, primarily sourced from the internet and scholarly works. Respondents generally acknowledged AI's potential to address societal exigencies, particularly in education, medicine, and agriculture, yet expressed concerns about occupational displacement, dehumanization, and economic ramifications. Within education, AI was perceived as considerably useful for personalized learning and enhanced engagement, although reservations regarding diminished human interaction and system vulnerabilities were noted. The study underscores the dualistic nature of student perceptions, balancing optimism about AI's educational benefits with broader societal anxieties, suggesting a need for continued scholarly discourse and educational initiatives to optimize AI's implementation while mitigating potential risks.
