This article reveals the principles and criteria in choosing terminological minimum in teaching English for specific purpose (ESP) to engineering students. The concept of terminological minimum was analyzed. The importance of choosing a terminological minimum in the organization of the methodology for teaching terminological lexicon is based on the fact that, it is necessary to create a solid terminological base that provides understanding of the maximum number of terms when reading original scientific and technical literature in its specialty. The choice of the terminological minimum was based on the fact that it is necessary to rely on statistical, methodological and linguistic criteria that guarantee the effective formation of a terminological reserve that covers the maximum.
